Let’s enjoy a unique experience: learn about the ancient world and how to make a mosaic, all in one day! We will visit one of the favorite places of the citizens of the ancient Rome: the roman baths built by Emperor Caracalla.

Your guide will show you that the baths not only housed the hot, warm and cold pools: they offered much more; let’s find it out together! All in a private tour, kids and family friendly!

You’ll learn about the guests would enter the locker room and pay a servant to watch over their personal belongings, at that time lockers hadn’t been invented yet! visitors could choose different ways to spend time, such as training, playing ball, running or wrestling.

You will be surprised by the grandeur of the building…

Just imagine, these baths could host more than 1,500 people at once and access was open for all: men, women, children, old, young, rich and poor!

The baths were beautifully decorated with precious statues, marble veneering, and gorgeous colorful mosaics! Romans were fond of mosaics and used to place them everywere!

Romans loved to decorate their houses with colorful mosaics, composed of tiny pebbles of different colors and materials such as glass, stone and marble. The mosaics, like colorful comics, decorated the houses and have told us about their hobbies, passions (like sports, animals and gladiators combats) and favorite foods!

After having admired the mosaics made 2000 years ago by expert mosaicists we will make one with our hands!
Let’s discover the secrets of the ancient mosaic artists and let’s use them to make our modern mosaic! The whole family will be involved in a unique experience!

We will move to a mosaic workshop and led by an artist we will make a mosaic from beginning to end: let’s choose a model, let’s turn it into a mosaic using little coloured pebbles, and once finished… let’s bring our work of art home with us!

We will learn to make the mortar and discover how to use small stones instead of colors… it will be fun to discover that we are artists and we did not know it!

(in case of bad wheather it will be replaced with Palazzo Massimo: adults 10€ ; under 18s: 5€)

We run only private tours.

We don’t run small groups.

We can accommodate time/day request according to our guides’ and entry tickets availability.

Starting price for a private tour 2,5 hrs for 2 adults: 350 euro + tickets but definitive price is provided *only* upon request.
Price can be reduced during low season or increased during holiday, peak dates or last minute request.
