THIS TOUR INCLUDES:
NOTES:
Those of us visiting for the first time the Sistine Chapel and admiring Michelangelo’s frescoes with their upturned nose have thought: “but how did he do it?!” Well, let’s find out together, in fact … let’s do it together! Let’s jump into a 360′ artistic experience that will leave the whole family stunned!
A fun and hands-on 2-hour private workshop with an expert fresco artist – inspired by the masterpieces of Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel!
Forget the screens for a while and get ready to get your hands dirty with colours, brushes and fresh plaster!
This special experience introduces children and families to the fascinating world of Renaissance fresco painting through a fun, interactive and completely hands-on workshop. Inspired by the extraordinary frescoes of Michelangelo and the artistic world of the Sistine Chapel, children will discover how these masterpieces were created – and then have the chance to try the ancient technique themselves.
When we look at the Sistine Chapel and admire Michelangelo’s frescoes, one question naturally comes to mind:
How did he actually do it?
This workshop is designed to answer that question through experience rather than simply looking at works of art.
We will talk about Michelangelo, the Renaissance and the incredible technique used to paint frescoes. What exactly is a fresco? Why does the plaster have to be fresh? How did artists prepare their drawings? How did they manage such enormous paintings?
The Sistine Chapel and Michelangelo’s masterpieces will be our inspiration as we discover the secrets behind one of the most fascinating artistic techniques in history.
And then… it’s time to create!
Then, let’s move to a painter’s workshop and make our own fresco!
We will visit a real painter’s workshop and learn together how to make a fresco! Guided by the expert hands of a real painter we will create a fresco just as Michelangelo would have done 500 years ago! From the preparatory drawing to the real painting on the still FRESH plaster (and hence the name!) We will complete a small work of art using the ancient techniques and we will bring it home with us!

Your children will be involved in a unique experience that will make them forget, for a couple of hours, screens, tablets, and keyboards and will immerse them, with the body and mind, in a new, fun and stimulating universe.
Grown ups and children will not resist the joy of learning while having fun and returning children for a few hours!
If your children would love to see Michelangelo’s masterpieces in person, you can also book our Vatican Kids Tour with us.
During this family-friendly private tour, our guide will introduce children to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel in a fun and engaging way, making the art and stories accessible to younger visitors. The two experiences can be booked separately or combined to create a wonderful art-filled day in Rome!
This experience does not include admission to the Vatican Museums or the Sistine Chapel. Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel are used as inspiration and as a starting point for discovering the fascinating technique of fresco painting.
This is a private experience and can be arranged according to the availability of our fresco artist. Starting price: 400 euro for a family of 4.
Please contact us for availability and the final price.
EXCELLENT Based on 300 reviews Posted on Google Carla Buhl-de VriesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We made 2 private tours with Nicole: the baths of Caracalla and the Aqueducts. We were very happy with this friendly young woman, who knows a lot about ancient history. We will certainly join again, with Nicole, whenever we get back to Rome again!Posted on Google Gregg JacobTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Francesca was OUTSTANDING! Her energy and enthusiasm were palpable and contagious. Her knowledge of both art and history had all of us (aged 14-82) engaged for the entire tour. I highly recommend Joy of Rome and without question would request Francesca!!!Posted on Google Caroline Harding-EdgarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We booked the Coliseum tour and the Rome Highlights tour for our family of 4 (girls aged 8 and 5), and would thoroughly recommend. Our guides (Francesca and Grace) were energetic, engaging and informative, and tailored the tours perfectly to our girls' interests and energy levels. The girls loved it and learned a lot - and so did we!Posted on Google Deepti AvasthiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very nice tourPosted on Google Steven BalitTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a fantastic private tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel with our guide, Sarah from Joy of Rome. She clearly knew her way around this remarkable part of Rome and shared her deep knowledge with enthusiasm and clarity. Thanks to her insights, we gained a much better understanding of Vatican City and its significance to the Eternal City. Though it was only a two hour tour, it was incredibly rewarding, absolutely worth it and highly recommended.Posted on Google Jerek PetrousTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joy of Rome is an exceptional tour company. We had great experiences, but Serena was seriously the best guide we’ve ever had in all the countries we’ve been to. Can’t recommend her enough!Posted on Google Andrea McCormickTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fabulous tour with Francesca - she was great with kids, kept them engaged for 2 hours, we all learnt lots and had a really great time. Thanks for making our trip to the Colosseum so memorable!Posted on Google Noelle BrennanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Angela gave us a fabulous tour of the Forum, Palatine Hill and the Pantheon. It was fantastic! Her knowledge and enthusiasm was far beyond our expectations! I would highly recommend her!Posted on Google Carolyn GiererTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joy of Rome and our tour guide Nicole made our Colosseum experience a great one. I couldn’t have imagined taking a 4 and 5 year old into the colosseum without her. She brought a cute book, had print outs that my kids loved (and she let us take home) and completely curated the experience for families with young kids. 10/10 recommend if you are traveling with kiddos.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
