VATICAN Museums & SISTINE Chapel Tour in depth
The Tour includes:
NOTE:
Not suitable for young children.
The VATICAN MUSEUMS are one of those places you can never get enough of: every time you step in the galleries you discover new things to love! This 5 hour SKIP THE LINE VATICAN CITY WALKING TOUR covers, in depth, all the most significant parts that this small state has to offer … all the great and important beauty!
You will not just visit the main halls and galleries but you will also step off the beaten track to admire some of the Vatican’s smaller, hidden treasures such as the Pinacoteca: the astonishing Paintings Gallery!
Every moment in these Museums will give you the opportunity to see amazing artworks and artifacts, and this is just the first part: the enchanting SISTINE CHAPEL, painted by MICHELANGELO, is waiting for you!
Thanks to the extra time available in the Vatican Museums In-depth Tour you will visit the collection of paintings of the Popes! There you will admire CARAVAGGIO masterpieces and the only painting by LEONARDO DA VINCI in this collection; you will discover RAPHAEL as “tapestry designer”, GIOTTO and much more.
After seven yeas of careful restoration the BRACCIO NUOVO GALLERY was reopened in December 2016. You will get to see them as part of the Vatican In-depth Tour!
Inaugurated in February 1822, the building consists of a gallery 68 meters long, covered by a coffered vault with skylights.
In the twenty-eight niches along the walls, it is now possible to admire again masterpieces of antiquity such as the statue of the emperor Augustus from Prima Porta and the gorgeous statue symbolizing the River Nile.
Take some extra time by choosing Vatican Museums In-depth Tour and visit this spectacular gallery where the staging was supervised by the Commission of Fine Arts, chaired by Antonio Canova, Filippo Aurelio Visconti and Antonio D’Este.
This nineteenth-century “factory”, is considered one of the most important examples of Neoclassical architecture in Rome and now masterworks from antiquity are again shining from the past in this spectacular frame … and we won’t miss a thing!
On the Vatican Museums In-depth Tour you will be entranced by this magnificent collection, a symbol of the admiration and passion the Popes have had for ancient art.
If you love art and paintings and want to learn more about these outstanding collections, this unique state and the most beautiful church in the world…this is your tour!
Spend 5 hours in Vatican Museums In-depth Tour moving from the Galleries to the Raphael Rooms until you reach the icing on the cake…The wonderful Sistine Chapel!
Due to crowd-control measures and operational restrictions, the internal passage between the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica may or may not be accessible on the day of your visit. For this reason, the tour does not include entry into St. Peter’s Basilica.
When the passage is open, the tour will conclude in St. Peter’s Square. When the passage is closed, the tour will end inside the Sistine Chapel.
In both cases, your guide will accompany you throughout the Vatican Museums and provide full explanations before the conclusion of the tour. If the tour ends in the Sistine Chapel, the guide will leave you there and you will be free to remain inside the Vatican Museums until closing time, exploring at your own pace.
This does not mean that you will miss the opportunity to visit St. Peter’s Basilica during your stay in Rome. St. Peter’s Basilica is a church, admission is free, and you can easily visit it independently by entering directly from St. Peter’s Square. During your visit, you can admire highlights such as Bernini’s Baldachin, Michelangelo’s Pietà, the Papal tombs, and the magnificent dome.
The Vatican Classic Tour ends either inside the Sistine Chapel or in St. Peter’s Square, depending on whether the internal passage is accessible on the day of the tour. In both situations, you are free to continue exploring independently and enjoy the area at your own pace.
IMPORTANT: Please remember that both Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s are religious sites. It is required to be dressed appropriately. We will give you instructions during the booking process.
From June to October and extra fee of 15% will be added on last minute requests (3 days before the tour date).
We run only private tours.
We don’t run small groups.
We can accommodate time/day request according to our guides’ and entry tickets availability.
Final and detailed price will be provided after receiving your request from the contact form.
Starting price for a private tour 2,5 hrs for 2 adults: 350 euro + tickets but definitive price is provided *only* upon request.
Price can be reduced during low season or increased during holiday, peak dates or last minute request.
EXCELLENT Based on 300 reviews Posted on Carla Buhl-de VriesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We made 2 private tours with Nicole: the baths of Caracalla and the Aqueducts. We were very happy with this friendly young woman, who knows a lot about ancient history. We will certainly join again, with Nicole, whenever we get back to Rome again!Posted on Gregg JacobTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Francesca was OUTSTANDING! Her energy and enthusiasm were palpable and contagious. Her knowledge of both art and history had all of us (aged 14-82) engaged for the entire tour. I highly recommend Joy of Rome and without question would request Francesca!!!Posted on Caroline Harding-EdgarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We booked the Coliseum tour and the Rome Highlights tour for our family of 4 (girls aged 8 and 5), and would thoroughly recommend. Our guides (Francesca and Grace) were energetic, engaging and informative, and tailored the tours perfectly to our girls' interests and energy levels. The girls loved it and learned a lot - and so did we!Posted on Deepti AvasthiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very nice tourPosted on Steven BalitTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a fantastic private tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel with our guide, Sarah from Joy of Rome. She clearly knew her way around this remarkable part of Rome and shared her deep knowledge with enthusiasm and clarity. Thanks to her insights, we gained a much better understanding of Vatican City and its significance to the Eternal City. Though it was only a two hour tour, it was incredibly rewarding, absolutely worth it and highly recommended.Posted on Jerek PetrousTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joy of Rome is an exceptional tour company. We had great experiences, but Serena was seriously the best guide we’ve ever had in all the countries we’ve been to. Can’t recommend her enough!Posted on Andrea McCormickTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fabulous tour with Francesca - she was great with kids, kept them engaged for 2 hours, we all learnt lots and had a really great time. Thanks for making our trip to the Colosseum so memorable!Posted on Noelle BrennanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Angela gave us a fabulous tour of the Forum, Palatine Hill and the Pantheon. It was fantastic! Her knowledge and enthusiasm was far beyond our expectations! I would highly recommend her!Posted on Carolyn GiererTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joy of Rome and our tour guide Nicole made our Colosseum experience a great one. I couldn’t have imagined taking a 4 and 5 year old into the colosseum without her. She brought a cute book, had print outs that my kids loved (and she let us take home) and completely curated the experience for families with young kids. 10/10 recommend if you are traveling with kiddos.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
