VATICAN Museum & SISTINE Chapel Tour extended
THIS TOUR INCLUDES:
The best of the very best of the collection for those who want to know more! A 4 hour long tour to discover all the highlights of one of the most visited museums in the world. Our 5 star Rome and Vatican Museums guide will show you masterpieces by Raphael and Michelangelo, the marvelous statues in the Gallery of the Candelabra and more! Have you ever heard about the incredible Gallery of the Maps with its 36 frescoes of Italian regions, thanks to which we can walk all the way along the “boot”?
Want to know more about the beauty and stories of the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling, painted in just four years by Michelangelo Buonarroti?
You will see more sections! Your guide will show you also the Pio Clementine Museum with the incredible Apollo and Torso del Belvedere. The two statues were inspirational for generations of artists, Michelangelo included! You will also see the sarcophagi of Helen and Costanza, in stunning red porphiry and more!
You want to explore even more? Check our VATICAN MUSEUMS IN DEPTH
Due to crowd-control measures and operational restrictions, the internal passage between the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica may or may not be accessible on the day of your visit. For this reason, the tour does not include entry into St. Peter’s Basilica.
When the passage is open, the tour will conclude in St. Peter’s Square. When the passage is closed, the tour will end inside the Sistine Chapel.
In both cases, your guide will accompany you throughout the Vatican Museums and provide full explanations before the conclusion of the tour. If the tour ends in the Sistine Chapel, the guide will leave you there and you will be free to remain inside the Vatican Museums until closing time, exploring at your own pace.
This does not mean that you will miss the opportunity to visit St. Peter’s Basilica during your stay in Rome. St. Peter’s Basilica is a church, admission is free, and you can easily visit it independently by entering directly from St. Peter’s Square. During your visit, you can admire highlights such as Bernini’s Baldachin, Michelangelo’s Pietà, the Papal tombs, and the magnificent dome.
Two options: or outside St. Peter’s Square or if the events calendar doesn’t change, in the Sistine Chapel if St.Peter’s will not be accessible due to last minute events.
IMPORTANT: Please remember that both Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s are religious sites. It is required to be dressed appropriately. We will give you instructions during the booking process.
You will enjoy an unforgettable experience across centuries of history with a friendly, enthusiastic, licensed Rome and Vatican Museums guide who will answer any question with passion and great knowledge of Italian Art History.

EXCELLENT Based on 300 reviews Posted on Carla Buhl-de VriesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We made 2 private tours with Nicole: the baths of Caracalla and the Aqueducts. We were very happy with this friendly young woman, who knows a lot about ancient history. We will certainly join again, with Nicole, whenever we get back to Rome again!Posted on Gregg JacobTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Francesca was OUTSTANDING! Her energy and enthusiasm were palpable and contagious. Her knowledge of both art and history had all of us (aged 14-82) engaged for the entire tour. I highly recommend Joy of Rome and without question would request Francesca!!!Posted on Caroline Harding-EdgarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We booked the Coliseum tour and the Rome Highlights tour for our family of 4 (girls aged 8 and 5), and would thoroughly recommend. Our guides (Francesca and Grace) were energetic, engaging and informative, and tailored the tours perfectly to our girls' interests and energy levels. The girls loved it and learned a lot - and so did we!Posted on Deepti AvasthiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very nice tourPosted on Steven BalitTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a fantastic private tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel with our guide, Sarah from Joy of Rome. She clearly knew her way around this remarkable part of Rome and shared her deep knowledge with enthusiasm and clarity. Thanks to her insights, we gained a much better understanding of Vatican City and its significance to the Eternal City. Though it was only a two hour tour, it was incredibly rewarding, absolutely worth it and highly recommended.Posted on Jerek PetrousTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joy of Rome is an exceptional tour company. We had great experiences, but Serena was seriously the best guide we’ve ever had in all the countries we’ve been to. Can’t recommend her enough!Posted on Andrea McCormickTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fabulous tour with Francesca - she was great with kids, kept them engaged for 2 hours, we all learnt lots and had a really great time. Thanks for making our trip to the Colosseum so memorable!Posted on Noelle BrennanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Angela gave us a fabulous tour of the Forum, Palatine Hill and the Pantheon. It was fantastic! Her knowledge and enthusiasm was far beyond our expectations! I would highly recommend her!Posted on Carolyn GiererTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joy of Rome and our tour guide Nicole made our Colosseum experience a great one. I couldn’t have imagined taking a 4 and 5 year old into the colosseum without her. She brought a cute book, had print outs that my kids loved (and she let us take home) and completely curated the experience for families with young kids. 10/10 recommend if you are traveling with kiddos.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
