TWILIGHTS of Rome + a glass of WINE
THIS TOUR INCLUDES:
**IMPORTANT** the glass of wine at the end of the tour will be paid separately on site, the price changes based on the type you chose
From the vibrant beauty of Piazza Navona to the timeless majesty of the Pantheon, every stop becomes even more magical under the soft evening light.
But this walk also takes you beyond the classic postcard views.
You’ll discover the mysterious Sacred Area of Largo Argentina, where the remains of ancient Republican temples lie beneath modern Rome and where, according to tradition, Julius Caesar met his fate on the Ides of March.
A few steps away, hidden beneath today’s buildings, lies the legendary Theatre of Pompey — once the largest theatre of Ancient Rome, later transformed into the stage of one of history’s most dramatic political assassinations.
As the city slowly lights up around you, your guide will bring centuries of Roman history to life through captivating tales, curiosities, legends and unforgettable characters.
We will start the Twilight Rome walking tour with one of the most iconic monuments of the Eternal City: the mighty Pantheon!
Entering this extraordinary ancient temple at the magical hour of sunset is an unforgettable experience. Originally built as a temple dedicated to all gods, the Pantheon became a church in the VII Century and still stands today as one of the greatest architectural masterpieces of Ancient Rome. You might not believe how perfectly preserved and immense the dome still is… did you know it was built in one solid piece? And look up through the famous oculus in the center: according to Roman tradition, even when it rains, the Pantheon somehow protects itself from the storm.
Just behind the Pantheon, hidden in one of Rome’s most charming little squares, you will discover Bernini’s delightful Elephant and Obelisk — affectionately known by Romans as “Il Pulcino della Minerva.” This whimsical masterpiece perfectly captures the playful spirit and genius of Baroque Rome.
From here, our twilight stroll will continue through the elegant streets of the historic center towards PIAZZA MONTECITORIO, home to the Italian Parliament and one of the city’s most refined squares, where ancient Roman columns and political history blend seamlessly with everyday Roman life.
You will then reach the SACRED AREA OF LARGO ARGENTINA, one of the most fascinating archaeological sites in the city. Hidden below modern street level, these ancient Republican temples reveal a mysterious and evocative side of Rome, especially beautiful in the soft evening light.
This area is also tied to one of the most dramatic moments of Roman history: the assassination of Julius Caesar. Just steps away, your guide will point out the remains of the legendary THEATRE OF POMPEY, once the largest theatre of Ancient Rome and the very place where Caesar is believed to have met his fate on the Ides of March.
Continuing through narrow alleys and lively piazzas, you will arrive at the famous the lively beauty of PIAZZA NAVONA, one of the most elegant Baroque squares in Rome. Here you will admire Bernini’s famous FOUNTAIN OF THE FOUR RIVERS, surrounded by street artists, painters and the unmistakable energy of Roman evenings. And of course… this is also the perfect place to enjoy one of the best gelatos in Rome, promise!
The walk will then lead you to CAMPO DE’ FIORI, one of Rome’s most beloved squares. By day it hosts a bustling local market, while in the evening it transforms into a vibrant gathering place filled with lights, voices and the authentic atmosphere of Roman nightlife.
Bathed in the warm glow of twilight, Campo de Fiori reveals its most romantic side, making the perfect finale to an unforgettable evening walk through the heart of the Eternal City.
Our twilight stroll ends in CAMPO DE’ FIORI, one of the liveliest and most authentic corners of Rome. During the day, the square is famous for its historic market, but as evening falls it transforms into the beating heart of Roman nightlife, filled with locals, music, candlelit terraces and vibrant energy.
This is the perfect place to end the tour like a true Roman… with a drink in hand! Whether you choose a glass of Italian wine, a classic aperitivo or simply want to soak in the atmosphere, Campo de’ Fiori offers some of the best spots in the city to enjoy Rome after dark.
What more could you ask for? We’ll be happy to toast together at the end of the tour if you like!
(The cost of drinks is not included in the tour and the stop is entirely optional.)

EXCELLENT Based on 300 reviews Posted on Carla Buhl-de VriesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We made 2 private tours with Nicole: the baths of Caracalla and the Aqueducts. We were very happy with this friendly young woman, who knows a lot about ancient history. We will certainly join again, with Nicole, whenever we get back to Rome again!Posted on Gregg JacobTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Francesca was OUTSTANDING! Her energy and enthusiasm were palpable and contagious. Her knowledge of both art and history had all of us (aged 14-82) engaged for the entire tour. I highly recommend Joy of Rome and without question would request Francesca!!!Posted on Caroline Harding-EdgarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We booked the Coliseum tour and the Rome Highlights tour for our family of 4 (girls aged 8 and 5), and would thoroughly recommend. Our guides (Francesca and Grace) were energetic, engaging and informative, and tailored the tours perfectly to our girls' interests and energy levels. The girls loved it and learned a lot - and so did we!Posted on Deepti AvasthiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very nice tourPosted on Steven BalitTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a fantastic private tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel with our guide, Sarah from Joy of Rome. She clearly knew her way around this remarkable part of Rome and shared her deep knowledge with enthusiasm and clarity. Thanks to her insights, we gained a much better understanding of Vatican City and its significance to the Eternal City. Though it was only a two hour tour, it was incredibly rewarding, absolutely worth it and highly recommended.Posted on Jerek PetrousTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joy of Rome is an exceptional tour company. We had great experiences, but Serena was seriously the best guide we’ve ever had in all the countries we’ve been to. Can’t recommend her enough!Posted on Andrea McCormickTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fabulous tour with Francesca - she was great with kids, kept them engaged for 2 hours, we all learnt lots and had a really great time. Thanks for making our trip to the Colosseum so memorable!Posted on Noelle BrennanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Angela gave us a fabulous tour of the Forum, Palatine Hill and the Pantheon. It was fantastic! Her knowledge and enthusiasm was far beyond our expectations! I would highly recommend her!Posted on Carolyn GiererTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joy of Rome and our tour guide Nicole made our Colosseum experience a great one. I couldn’t have imagined taking a 4 and 5 year old into the colosseum without her. She brought a cute book, had print outs that my kids loved (and she let us take home) and completely curated the experience for families with young kids. 10/10 recommend if you are traveling with kiddos.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
