What will you visit on this tour?

Have you already visited the Colosseum and would like to explore Ancient Rome in greater depth?

This tour takes you beyond the standard itinerary, following the story of Rome from its legendary origins on the Palatine Hill to the splendour of the Imperial Age, ending beneath the extraordinary dome of the Pantheon.

On the Palatine Hill, the legendary birthplace of Rome, you will discover the remains of imperial palaces and enjoy spectacular views over the Forum and the city beyond. Depending on availability and opening schedules, the itinerary  includes access to one or more of the Park’s exclusive Super Sites, extraordinary spaces often overlooked by most visitors. These special areas can include imperial residences, beautifully preserved frescoed rooms, early Christian monuments and hidden corners that reveal a more intimate side of Ancient Rome.

Just like a citizen of the past, you will walk through the “piazze” and the markets until you will pass through the underground tunnel wich connects the imperial forum with the republican forum. You will litterally walk under via dei Fori Imperiali, the modern road built by Mussolini and go from one side to the other of the archaeological site.

You will enter the atmosphere of ancient Rome, among the people and in the streets around the Senate, where decrees were debated and laws created. Will the consuls, leaders of the Senate, approve or veto these laws? Find out with your guide 😊

And then?...

In a few minutes, you have reached the beating heart of the ancient world: the Roman Forum!
With the help of our guides, you will be able to imagine vendors bargaining their wares and politicians talking to crowds, judges handing out sentences for criminals and teachers surrounded by their students.
You will seem to hear priests praying to their pagan gods or predicting the future, but also thieves who run away after robbing someone right near where dozens of naked slaves, in line, are waiting to be bought.

Let yourself be inspired by the beauty of the most important vestiges of the past: the Temple of Saturn, the facade of the Tabularium, the Senate, the Temple of Julius Caesar, the house of the Vestal virgins and their sacred fire. Walk on the “Via Sacra”, the most important street in Rome, to reach the Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine and immediately after the Arch of Titus with its representation of the “Menorah”, the seven-branched Jewish candelabrum stolen from Jerusalem.

The experience concludes at the Pantheon, one of the best-preserved monuments of antiquity. Originally built as a temple for all the gods and later transformed into a church, it still amazes visitors with its engineering, harmony and magnificent dome nearly two thousand years after its construction. A perfect experience for travellers who wish to go beyond the highlights and uncover the many layers of Rome’s history through its most remarkable monuments.

Converted into the church of Santa Maria dei Martiri in the 7th century, the Pantheon shows an incredible state of conservation and, what is even more incredible, it is a huge temple with the most famous dome in the world… a single piece of concrete!

If you’re lucky enough to visit on a rainy day, you can test one of Rome’s most famous beliefs: despite the huge opening in the center of the dome, many Romans will tell you that it never rains inside the Pantheon!
