EATING in Testaccio

Where?

Testaccio is a vibrant Roman neighborhood, situated in the historical center and probably the less touristic place within the ancient Roman walls. Families, students and shopkeepers are the real inhabitants of this little but chaotic part of Rome where people is proud of being a true
Roman.

What will we do?

We will enter the shops, bakeries, patisseries, bars and we will discover how things are prepared and how to eat them. We will talk about Roman cuisine, our guide will explain you traditions and recipes of the local food while sitting in Testaccio market. We will meet and chat with the local cooks and bakers, discover their secrets and eat their delicacies.

Also, Roman cuisine can be overwhelming so we have planned the tour to be the right amount of walk and food. We strongly recommend to join our tour skipping your hotel’s breakfast.

What will you eat?

We start with a Cappuccino and cornetto in a famous local bar and then we will enter a local grocery store to taste their cheese, mozzarella and ham. We will savor the local wine while eating Roman artichokes and a special pizza with seasonal ingredients. We will eat some of the most delicious courses of the Roman cuisine like Carbonara, Amatriciana, Cacio e Pepe, Pollo alla Cacciatora and Roman fright Suppli. A traditional gelato and a coffee will be tasted at the end of the morning in a local bar.

Quality or quantity?

This tour is perfect for those that want to eat selected food, delicacies and excellent ingredients: we are especially proud of the artichokes, pizza and roman cuisine you will savor in our tour. On the other hand, these are not just tastings, but regular portions that will satiate also the hungriest! Our food tastings serve as a meal. You will pay only what you decide to eat.

Starting price for a private tour 2,5 hrs for 2 adults: 350 euro + tickets but definitive price is provided *only* upon request.
Price can be reduced during low season or increased during holiday, peak dates or last minute request.

For group larger than four, price will be provided upon request.
