NOTES:
AVAILABLE AS PRIVATE TOUR. NUMEROUS FAMILIES AND BIG GROUPS OF FRIENDS ARE WELCOME!
ROME!! You’ve watched movies about it, studied it in school, read about it in books, and now you are finally here! An Ancient Rome Guided Tour is tailored to satisfy all your curiosity. You are walking on the cobble stones of the Eternal City: the city from where, more than 2000 years ago, the fate of a huge empire was decided by charismatic and unscrupulous emperors! Follow us through more than 12 centuries of ancient Roman history on our Colosseum and Roman Forum and Palatine Hill Tour, from the time of Romulus, Remus and the She-Wolf up to the Barbarian invasions.
Imagine gladiators wounded by wild lions and tigers, criminals skinned alive or fed to wild animals during cruel executions. And finally, in the afternoon, bet (not for real!) on the gladiators fighting for their life.
After the exploration of the Flavian Amphitheatre, leave the stadium walk to the Arch of Constantine, in 5 minutes you will arrive at the beating heart of the ancient world: the Roman Forum.
If you want to visit the Colosseum ARENA FLOOR or reach the ATTIC it is possible to add these sections to the tour upon availability and request! IMPORTANT: availability is very low especially for last minute bookings.
During your Colosseum and Roman Forum Tour with the help of our licensed guides you will easily imagine sellers trading goods, politicians speaking to the crowd, judges sentencing criminals, teachers surrounded by their students. Don’t forget the priests worshipping pagan gods or predicting the future, as well as pickpockets running away with someone’s bag, or hundreds of nude slaves in line, ready to be purchased.
Be inspired by the beauty of the most important ruins of antiquity on the Colosseum and Roman Forum Tour: the Temple of Saturn, the Tabularium façade, the ancient Senate house, the Temple of Julius Cesar, the house of the Vestal Virgins and their Holy Fire. Walk through the “Via Sacra”, the holiest road in Rome, to reach the Basilica of Maxentius and Constantine and the Arch of Titus, with its picture of the glorious Jewish Menorah.
§ After this you will discover the secrets of the most famous of the seven hills of Rome: the Palatine Hill. A very easy walk will take us to the top of the “Beverly Hills of the past”: passing through the recentely reopened Domus Tiberiana, we will explore imposing remains of the Imperial Palace! Banquets, political battles, luxurious fountains and shiny marbles! All the elegance and beauty of these halls: will be brought to life through the words of your enthusiastic guide in an unforgettable walk through the remains…
Please note, from October to February Colosseum and Roman Forum will close at 4:30 PM.
From June to October and extra fee of 15% will be added on last minute requests (3 days before the tour date).

EXCELLENT Based on 300 reviews Posted on Carla Buhl-de VriesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We made 2 private tours with Nicole: the baths of Caracalla and the Aqueducts. We were very happy with this friendly young woman, who knows a lot about ancient history. We will certainly join again, with Nicole, whenever we get back to Rome again!Posted on Gregg JacobTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Francesca was OUTSTANDING! Her energy and enthusiasm were palpable and contagious. Her knowledge of both art and history had all of us (aged 14-82) engaged for the entire tour. I highly recommend Joy of Rome and without question would request Francesca!!!Posted on Caroline Harding-EdgarTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We booked the Coliseum tour and the Rome Highlights tour for our family of 4 (girls aged 8 and 5), and would thoroughly recommend. Our guides (Francesca and Grace) were energetic, engaging and informative, and tailored the tours perfectly to our girls' interests and energy levels. The girls loved it and learned a lot - and so did we!Posted on Deepti AvasthiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very nice tourPosted on Steven BalitTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a fantastic private tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel with our guide, Sarah from Joy of Rome. She clearly knew her way around this remarkable part of Rome and shared her deep knowledge with enthusiasm and clarity. Thanks to her insights, we gained a much better understanding of Vatican City and its significance to the Eternal City. Though it was only a two hour tour, it was incredibly rewarding, absolutely worth it and highly recommended.Posted on Jerek PetrousTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joy of Rome is an exceptional tour company. We had great experiences, but Serena was seriously the best guide we’ve ever had in all the countries we’ve been to. Can’t recommend her enough!Posted on Andrea McCormickTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Fabulous tour with Francesca - she was great with kids, kept them engaged for 2 hours, we all learnt lots and had a really great time. Thanks for making our trip to the Colosseum so memorable!Posted on Noelle BrennanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Angela gave us a fabulous tour of the Forum, Palatine Hill and the Pantheon. It was fantastic! Her knowledge and enthusiasm was far beyond our expectations! I would highly recommend her!Posted on Carolyn GiererTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Joy of Rome and our tour guide Nicole made our Colosseum experience a great one. I couldn’t have imagined taking a 4 and 5 year old into the colosseum without her. She brought a cute book, had print outs that my kids loved (and she let us take home) and completely curated the experience for families with young kids. 10/10 recommend if you are traveling with kiddos.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
