• Extended Vatican Museums Tour•
Our Extended Vatican Museums Tour includes a visit to the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel and – by skipping the line – St. Peter’s Basilica.
What’s the best time to start the Extended Vatican Museums Tour?
We generally suggest you choose the afternoon to visit the Vatican Museums (1.30-5.30 pm), as it is less crowded, easier to get tickets and book a tour guide.
Featuring an extensive exploration of the Pope’s Art and Archaeology collections, an Art History major will guide you through the Vatican Galleries, showing you paintings and tapestries by Raphael and some of the most important marble statues from the Classical World, including Laôcoon and the Apollo Belvedere.
Follow your guide through galleries frescoed by the greatest artists of the Italian Renaissance, above all the incredibly beautiful Raphael Rooms with his greatest masterpiece: The School of Athens, and if you’re curious about what Michelangelo or Raphael had for breakfast, just ask!!
During the Extended Vatican Museums Tour everything along the tour is a sort of preparation for the “big finale”: the glorious Sistine Chapel’s Ceiling painted by Michelangelo.
Let our professional, local and licenced guides navigate you through the secrets of the most precious jewel of the Vatican Museums!
40 metres in length and 13 metres wide, the Chapel of Pope Sistus IV holds one of the wonders of the italian renaissance: the vault decorated by Michelangelo in only 4 years! The story of the Genesis and the Last Jugment on the altar walls are the reasons thousands of visitor come to the Museums every day…And it’s worth it!
Through a special door connecting the Sistine Chapel to St. Peter’s Basilica, you will skip the line to visit the largest church in the world. There you’ll have the unique opportunity to admire the magnificent Pietà made by a very young Michelangelo and the interior of the highest dome in Rome, designed by Michelangelo before he died, in 1564.
Where wil the tour end?
The tour will end in the imposing St. Peter’s square, where thousands of pilgrims gather every week for the papal blessing. After the tour, you can stay and continue exploring at your own pace, visit the crypt or climb the dome on your own.
IMPORTANT: Please remember that St. Peter’s Basilica is a church and that there might be last minute closures for religious celebrations without any previous notice.
We will take care to inform you promptly. In the case that the Basilica is not open, the tour will still be 4 hours and we will add to the visit of the Pinacoteca (pictures gallery) section.
